The Chevy Tahoe went through a redesign in 2015, which was just six model years ago. In years past, this design would be good for at least 10 years, but in the fast-moving automotive world we live in today, you evolve or get out of the way. Evolve the Tahoe has, as we just got our first full taste of the redesigned 2021 Chevy Tahoe. Here’s what to expect when it hits our new-Chevy showroom serving Saginaw, Bay City, Freeland, and the surrounding areas.
Brand-New Look
The 2021 Chevy Tahoe starts with an all-new body measuring 210.7 inches long that rides on a 120.9-inch-long wheelbase. Respectively, these measurements are 6.7 and 4.9 inches longer than the 2020 model.
On top of being even larger than before, the 2021 Tahoe will also take on an all-new look. Don’t fret; Chevy didn’t go soft on you, as the 2021 Tahoe will still be a big, blocky SUV. What will change are the details that make up this bold-looking SUV, including a nose that boasts a large, dual-port grille, thin LED headlights, C-shaped LED signature lighting, and more.
Down the sides, the Tahoe retains its long and relatively flat sheet metal, but it has two deep character lines at the shoulder and lower levels.
On the backside, the 2021 Tahoe rolls in with all-new taillights with striking LED graphics that create L-shaped signatures. Between the lights is a premium-looking chrome applique to show off the upscale nature of this large SUV.
At the corners, the 2021 Tahoe will come standard with 18-inch wheels in its LS and LT trims. The Premier trim will boast 20-inch wheels, as will the Z71 trim, but the latter will also include all-terrain tires. The RST and High Country trims will top the range with 22-inch rollers.
Fresh Cabin Design
Inside, the new-generation Tahoe will get an all-new design as well. This new-look interior includes a “floating” touchscreen, a clean and luxurious-looking dash, and loads of upscale materials.
The Tahoe also gets plenty of new tech and entertainment features, including a standard 10-inch touchscreen. It’ll also gain an 8-inch configurable gauge cluster on Premier and High Country trims, while a 4.2-inch driver-information center will come standard on the LS, LT, RST, and Z71 models. Buyers can also add a rear-seat media system that includes dual headrest-mounted 12.6-inch monitors.
As before, the 2021 Tahoe will include standard Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™, and 4G LTE Wi-Fi® (data plan required). On every trim other than the LS, the Tahoe will include wireless charging with a charging cooler to keep your device from overheating and pausing its charge.
This revised cabin also includes a more adult-friendly third-row seat with an extra 10 inches of legroom, putting it at 34.9 inches. Despite its roomier third row, the Tahoe also sees its cargo room jump by 10.2 cubes with the rear seats upright to 25.5 cubes. With all the seats folded, the Tahoe can haul 122.9 cubic feet of cargo, which is a 28.2-cube increase.
The second row also gets a healthy 3-inch bump in legroom to 42 inches.
Six Distinct Trims
Forming the basis of the 2021 Tahoe lineup are the LS and LT trims, but it will also boast four trims designed for specific types of buyers. The RST trim is great for buyers seeking a little extra sportiness with a unique front fascia that includes a Black Ice-finished grille, black-chrome exterior trim, 22-inch wheels, RST-spec seats with contrasting stitching, and more.
The Z71 trim is a great option for families who like to travel off the beaten path with its standard four-wheel drive, revised front fascia that delivers a better approach angle, a two-speed transfer case, hill-descent control, 20-inch wheels wrapped in all-terrain rubber, front skid plate, red tow hooks, and black and black-chrome accents.
The Premier trim boosts the Tahoe’s premium look and feel with its Magnetic Ride Control, navigation, 8-inch reconfigurable gauge cluster, Bose® 10-speaker audio system, 12-way power front seats with ventilation, a heated steering wheel, and 20-inch wheels. To help keep everyone safe, this trim also adds Safety Alert Seat, lane-change alert with blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, lane-keep assist, lane-departure warning, and front and rear parking sensors.
The range-topping High Country model takes everything the Premier trim offers and adds a unique grille with bronze accents, High Country sill plates and seat embroidery, more color options, a 6.2-liter V-8 engine, 22-inch wheels with chrome inserts, rear pedestrian alerts, a head-up display, and a high-definition 360-degree camera. Buyers can also add optional adaptive air-ride suspension and adaptive cruise control.
Two Familiar Engines, and One Newcomer
The 2021 Chevy Tahoe will continue with two familiar engines, starting with a standard 5.3-liter V-8 that cranks out 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. There is also an optional 6.2-liter V-8 with 420 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque.
The newcomer to the lineup is a 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V-6 that pumps out 277 horsepower and 460 pound-feet of torque. This engine will not only deliver great torque for towing, but we also expect phenomenal highway fuel economy once EPA ratings become available.
All three engines will pair with a 10-speed automatic transmission and rear- or four-wheel drive.
Safety Comes Standard
All 2021 Chevy Tahoe models will come standard with automatic emergency braking. In the current Tahoe, this feature is standard only in LT and higher trims.
Other available safety equipment available with the 2021 Tahoe include a high-definition rearview camera, forward-collision warning, following-distance indicator, front pedestrian braking, rear pedestrian warning, rear park assist, automatic high-beam headlights, and hitch guidance on the rearview camera.
Coming to the Saginaw Area in Mid-2020
The 2021 Chevy Tahoe will arrive here at Garber Chevrolet of Saginaw, serving Bay City, Freeland, and the surrounding area, in mid-2020. Pricing is not available yet, but we should learn more about that as we near its on-sale date.
