The Chevy Camaro just went through a big refresh in 2019, but the 2020 Camaro will debut another new look for the SS models. The 2020 Camaro’s updates will go beyond just a new look for the SS with a new transmission and lower-cost access to the V-8 engine.
The most obvious update to the 2020 Camaro will be the new nose on SS models. Chevy pulled this updated fascia from the Camaro Shock Concept that debuted at the 2018 SEMA auto show. It will move the Chevy bow tie up to the upper grille and add a body-color divider between the upper and lower grilles. In last year’s SS model, there was a black separator between the grilles with the bow tie emblem mounted to it.
Another big change to the 2020 Camaro will be cheaper access to a V-8 engine with the new Camaro LT1. This model will combine the basic looks and features of the 1LT trim with the 455-horsepower V-8 engine in the SS model for just $34,995. Beside the V-8 engine, the Camaro LT1 will add the SS model’s vented hood, LT1 fender badges, black bow tie emblems, 20-inch SS-style wheels, and a standard six-speed manual transmission.
2020 Camaro LT1 Buyers can also upgrade to a 10-speed automatic transmission and the Chevrolet Infotainment system with an 8-inch touchscreen and a Bose audio system.
The final big update to the 2020 Chevy Camaro is an optional 10-speed automatic transmission with the V-6 engine, which replaces last year’s eight-speed automatic. Chevy based the new 10-speed unit on the same automatic transmission found in the SS and ZL1 Camaro, but Chevy tuned it to better handle the V-6 engine’s output.
