2020 Chevrolet Blazer Vs. 2020 Ford Edge

2020 Chevrolet Blazer Vs. 2020 Ford Edge

Crossovers are far from the most exciting vehicles to shop for, but the 2020 Chevy Blazer and 2020 Ford Edge throw that stigma on its ear with sharp designs and surprising performance for our Saginaw area car shoppers. Which is the better midsize crossover for you? Continue reading to find out.

Exterior

The crossover segment is an interesting one because their designs range from about as vanilla as you can get to rather wild. The 2020 Blazer and 2020 Ford Edge are on the wild side of center on that scale, as they are not too over the top, but they are also far from vanilla.

The 2020 Ford Edge is the tamer of these two crossovers with its squared shoulders, strong bodylines, a forward-leaning rear liftgate, and deeply scalloped doors. On top of all that, the 2020 Edge also has its performance-geared ST trim that adds gloss-black accents, a mesh-style ST grille, side sills, and unique wheels, and much more.

The 2020 Chevy Blazer has been referred to as a Camaro crossover, thanks to its in-your-face styling, making it the wilder of these two crossovers. Despite its bold looks, the Blazer is far from the wildest-styled crossover on the market, but it does stand out with its squinty headlights, bodylines shooting all over the place, bold chrome grille center bar, and more. The Blazer also has the RS package, which adds black accents and other sporty touches to dress it up a bit.

In terms of key standard exterior features, these two models are very similar. The 2020 Edge’s key standard equipment includes 18-inch Sparkle Silver aluminum wheels, an acoustic-laminated windshield, active grille shutters, black beltline molding, body-color upper and black lower front bumper, body-color door handles and spoiler, stainless steel dual exhaust exits, chrome grille bars and surround, LED daytime running lights, LED taillights, Bi-LED low- and high-beam headlights with auto on/off, power mirrors with black caps, and more.

The 2020 Blazer’s standard goodies include dual-outlet exhaust with circular bright tips, 18-inch Bright Silver aluminum wheels, automatic-on/off high-intensity-discharge headlights, signature Blazer grille, body-color door handles, body-color mirror caps, heated power outside mirrors, LED daytime running lights and taillights, lower bodyside moldings, active upper aero shutters, and more.

The tale of the tape says the Blazer is longer and wider, but the Edge is taller and has up to 0.8 inches of extra ground clearance.

Advantage: 2020 Ford Edge

  •       Sporty-looking ST trim
  •       More toned-down design
  •       Standard LED headlights

Advantage: 2020 Chevy Blazer

  •       Standout design
  •       Virtually identical features for cheaper

Interior

Despite a sharp exterior, the 2020 Edge’s interior carries on with the same Ford cabin that has been around for a few years. While it is not a bad design, it is a little too simple with its large touchscreen with a large black panel under it and flanked by additional cheap black trim. Moving into the ST trim adds a little more excitement with its ST steering wheel and bolstered sport seats, but it is still the same basic dash.

The 2020 Blazer is the polar opposite with its wild exterior design flowing into the cabin. This creates a striking look that includes a focus on horizontal lines to make it look wider, a sharply styled infotainment screen, circular air vents, and much more.

As for standard features, the Ford Edge’s key interior goodies include dual-zone automatic climate control, front and rear door-sill scuff plates, a 4.2-inch instrument panel productivity screen, the SYNC 3 infotainment system with enhanced voice recognition, an 8-inch touchscreen, Apple CarPlay®, Android Auto™, a six-speaker AM/FM audio system, a rotary gear shifter, cloth seating, 4G LTE Wi-Fi, and more.

The 2020 Blazer matches many of these features and adds a high-definition 8-inch touchscreen and a leather-wrapped steering wheel.

The Edge comes back to push the Blazer out with its wide range of standard safety equipment the Blazer does not offer as standard. These include SOS post-crash alert, automatic high-beam headlights, blind-spot monitoring, lane-keeping assist, automatic emergency braking, hill-start assist, and post-collision braking.

When looking at interior space, the Edge wins in every category. The biggest wins come in key areas too, including rear-seat legroom and cargo space.

Performance

Under its hood, the 2020 Ford Edge has two turbocharged powertrain options. The base setup is a 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder with 250 horsepower and 275 pound-feet of torque. This engine pairs with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard front-wheel drive for a 7.6-second sprint to 60 mph. This is a half-second quicker than the base Blazer, plus the Edge has a slight fuel-economy advantage at this level.

The Edge ST boasts a 2.7-liter turbo V-6 engine with 335 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque. This power heads through an eight-speed automatic transmission and out to all four wheels for a 6.1-second 0-to-60 time. The ST also has an upgraded chassis for enhanced handling.

The Blazer starts with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder that produces 193 horses and 188 pound-feet of torque. This routes through a nine-speed automatic transmission for an 8.4-second gallop to 60 mph.

Next up is the optional 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder with a GM-estimated 230 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque. This engine also pairs with a nine-speed automatic transmission. There have been no 0-to-60 tests with this engine yet, so stay tuned for updates.

Topping the Blazer range is a 3.6-liter V-6 with 308 horsepower 270 pound-feet of torque. This engine also uses a nine-speed automatic transmission and front or all-wheel drive. All said, the Blazer with this engine can sprint to 60 mph in 6.3 seconds, which is very close to the Edge ST.
